The University of California, Santa Cruz seeks a bold, strategic,and collaborative leader to serve as the Campus Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor (CPEVC). The CPEVC will serve as chiefacademic officer of the University and partner closely with Chancellor Cynthia Larive to guide one of the nation's mostdistinctive research universities through a period oftransformative opportunity and change. Set within 2,000 acres of coastal redwood forest overlooking Monterey Bay, UC Santa Cruz is a top-tier public researchuniversity that combines academic excellence with a bold commitmentto access, sustainability, and social impact. With a totalenrollment of nearly 20,000 studentsapproximately 17,366undergraduates and 1,888 graduate students UC Santa Cruz is amember of the Association of American Universities (AAU) and holdsR1 status. The University boasts 650 Academic Senate faculty and200 lecturers, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 22: 1, fostering acollaborative and personalized learning environment. In fiscal year2024, UC Santa Cruz secured over $250 million in extramuralresearch funding, reflecting a dynamic research enterprise thatspans climate resilience, genomics, astrophysics, and socialjustice. The University's annual operating budget exceeds $1billion, with core funds supporting its mission of teaching,research, and public service. Theywill contribute to efforts to address budgetary challenges byguiding academic programs toward financial sustainability andmaking thoughtful, forward-looking decisions about resourceallocation. Building trust across the campus community will beessential through meaningful engagement with faculty, staff, andstudents, and a strong commitment to shared governance. The CPEV Cwill strengthen the campus climate by addressing the unique needsof faculty and staff, while enhancing student engagement andsupport. They will help further define UC Santa Cruz's researchidentity and elevate its impact through strategic investment. Atthe same time, they will cultivate a cohesive academic leadershipteam, foster a culture of collaboration and transparency, andensure alignment around shared goals that advance the University'smission. The CPEVC must be an accomplished academic leader with national orinternational distinction as a scholar and educator, qualified forappointment as a tenured full professor at UC Santa Cruz. The rolerequires substantial experience in managing both academic programsand operations within a research university, includingcomprehensive academic planning, resource allocation, and fiscaloversight of large budgets. The successful candidate willdemonstrate the ability to lead and represent diverse academicunits, communicate effectively in a shared governance environment,and make and explain difficult decisions with transparency.Essential qualities include commitment to collaboration,inclusivity, and long-term institutional success, as well as provenskill in supervising senior personnel and fostering teamdevelopment. Preferred experience includes service at the dean orvice chancellor level, understanding of the complexities ofhigh-intensity research universities, and experience in graduateand undergraduate education, strategic planning, andfundraising.
