New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology Presidential Search Announcement The Board of Regents of New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMT) requests applications for its next President. The University is seeking a visionary and dynamic leader to continue the Universitys history of excellence in education, research and public engagement. Founded in 1889, NMT is a public university specializing in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The campus is located in the central Rio Grande Valley city of Socorro, New Mexico, just under 80 miles south of Albuquerque. With a student population of approximately 1,400, and a staff/faculty population of 800 full and part-time employees, the University is a world leader in many areas of research, including hydrology, astrophysics, atmospheric physics, geophysics, cybersecurity, homeland security, information technology, geosciences, energetic materials engineering, and petroleum recovery. The main campus is 101 acres of administrative and academic buildings, residence halls, and research facilities. Qualifications and Leadership Characteristics The new President must be a visionary leader who shares a passion for NMTs mission to serve the public through education, research and development, STEM teacher education, and STEM-related service benefitting the people of New Mexico and beyond. The successful candidate will be a collaborative and energetic leader that will nurture and expand relationships with surrounding communities, corporations, governmental agencies, foundations, and institutions of higher education. The President must also demonstrate a passion for serving the needs of first-generation college students, serving rural New Mexico, and New Mexicos diverse populations. The new President will communicate a clear University vision and mission, ensure academic quality and research excellence, provide effective financial oversight, serve as the chief spokesperson and advocate for the recruitment and retention of outstanding faculty, staff and students. The new President should possess a doctorate degree, possess significant leadership at a doctoral-granting research-intensive institution with a record of success in advancing research growth and external funding. The new President must be able to successfully and immediately address improving student enrollment as well as retention. The President must be politically astute and externally engaged to represent NMT to the New Mexico Legislature, federal and state agencies, National Laboratories and other outside organizations/agencies.
