SUNY Broome Community College seeks a dynamic and experienced professional to serve as the Director of Financial Aid. The Director of Financial Aid reports to the Associate Vice President and Controller and is the operational leader responsible for the overall operation of the student Financial Aid program and Veterans and Military Affairs. The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for operationalizing and directing all short, intermediate, and long-range planning for the financial aid program.
This role requires strong leadership, regulatory knowledge, and cross-campus collaboration to ensure accurate aid delivery and effective support for student success.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Direct and manage all daily operations related to federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs, as well as Veterans and Military education benefits. • Oversee the awarding, packaging, verification, disbursement, reconciliation, and Return to Title IV (R2T4) processes. • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, SUNY, and institutional regulations governing financial aid programs. • Administer, coordinate, and monitor financial aid funds from numerous programs while ensuring accurate reporting and audit readiness. • Maintain and update financial aid policies, procedures, workflows, and internal controls. • Supervise professional and clerical staff within the Financial Aid Office and Veterans and Military Affairs. • Establish work priorities, provide training and professional development, delegate responsibilities, and evaluate staff performance. • Foster a collaborative, student-centered environment focused on quality service and operational efficiency. • Oversee all phases of federal aid programs, including the Direct Loan Program and Pell Grant Program, including origination, disbursement, reconciliation, and reporting. • Supervise the administration of Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and Pursuit of Program (POP) reviews in accordance with federal regulations and institutional policy. • Ensure accurate federal needs analysis calculations and oversee staff processing of financial aid awards. • Manage complex student financial aid issues related to eligibility, awarding, and disbursement. • Counsel students and families regarding financial aid eligibility and funding options, applying professional judgment where appropriate. • Ensure high levels of student satisfaction through responsive and accurate financial aid services. • Conduct financial aid presentations and outreach activities for local high schools, campus events, and other community venues. • Work collaboratively with offices such as Admissions, Registrar, Student Accounts, and Academic Departments to ensure accurate data sharing and coordinated student services. • Participate in institutional committees and initiatives related to student success, compliance, and strategic planning. • Collaborate with campus partners to promote financial literacy, reduce student financial aid debt, and support efforts to reduce the College's cohort default rate. • Generate and review reports related to enrollment, attendance, and financial aid eligibility, making necessary adjustments to Cost of Attendance and aid awards.
Requirements: • A Bachelor's degree is required. • A Master's degree is preferred. • A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of related professional experience is required, including three (3) to five (5) years in a supervisory or leadership capacity. • Significant professional development in financial aid is desirable. • Must be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship.
Additional Information: The minimum annual salary for this position is $82,716. Salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
