Tenure Track: Assistant Professor (Structural Engineering)

Description

The Zachry Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, in the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position with a nine-month academic appointment. An additional summer appointment may be available, contingent upon departmental needs and the availability of funds. The anticipated start date is Fall 2027.

Applicants will be considered at the Assistant Professor level with required expertise in the area of behavior and design of steel structures using experimental methods, and with expertise in at least one of the following areas: structural health monitoring, structural control, computer vision, hybrid simulation, artificial intelligence, advanced materials, infrastructure resilience.

Candidates should demonstrate rigorous training in their primary area of expertise, along with strong potential to contribute to the field through original scholarship, effective teaching and student mentoring, and service to the university and the profession. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses; advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; develop an independent, externally funded research program; participate in departmental activities and service; collaborate with faculty across the College of Engineering; engage with industry and government partners and in professional service; and contribute to advancing the programs within the department. The successful candidate will also contribute to undergraduate and graduate curriculum development, program assessment, and continuous improvement activities associated with maintaining excellence in the department's ABET-accredited programs.Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

The Zachry Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering is among the leading civil and environmental engineering departments in the nation, with approximately 56 tenured/tenure-track faculty and 27 academic professional track faculty members. As of the Fall 2026 semester, the department is also home to the architectural engineering program. Qualifications

Applicants must have an earned doctoral degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering or science discipline by the appointment date. Candidates completing all Ph.D. requirements except the dissertation (ABD) will be considered, provided they demonstrate clear progress toward completion.
